Notre-Dame de la Daurade basilica

Golden cover.
The Notre-Dame de la Daurade basilica is built on the site of a pagan temple and a Benedictine monastery. The Church, consecrated to the Virgin Mary, was covered in small pieces of mosaic on a gold leaf background, which gave it its name: "Deaurata" means covered in gold. The current building is from the 18th century.
The basilica has a single nave and is flanked by chapels. It shelters an unusual Black Virgin to which the people of Toulouse are very attached.
